October 1903 or 1905
My Halloween contest ended last night at midnight and I am here to announce the winners. I was a bit disappointed by the quantity of entries. I got many more entries for my "Fire Fancies" art contest. I would have thought people would be more daunted by art than writing, but since I am a writer by profession that may just be my bias. However, I was not disappointed by the quality of the entries. In the end, I could not choose among Sarah, Eleanor and Shopgirl (Mary) so you are all winners. Congratulations!! To read the entries, go the the comments section in the post below.
And Riverbird, you are the winner of the drawing for making a comment. All of you, please e-mail me your mailing addresses. (Just go to my profile on the sidebar and click on the link that says "View my complete profile". On that page you will see an e-mail link on the left side.) Mary, I think I have your address but please send it to me again.
Now, for this post. You all know how much I love vintage Halloween. I have shared posts about vintage Halloween postcards, costumes and other collectibles. Now, for your enjoyment, vintage Halloween magazine covers. I didn't use any from the 1950s and forward. I just don't think the art is as nice. Plus, I'm from that era and I don't want to think of myself as vintage just quite yet!

You are absolutely right, the art form the early 1900's to the late 40's are some of my favorites for adds and campaigns, Thanks for sharing, they are lovely!
I love vintage halloween, and these are so fun to look at.

Thank you Julie, I added that I was one of the winners...Big hugs, Mary
Hey Julie, I would have come and entered your contest but I just only now saw it and it's over. :~(
We were out of town last weekend and it's been crazy down here.
Otherwise...I enjoyed catching up on your posts and I am very happy for you that this year you all have experienced a beautiful Autumn.
I wish I could say the same...but it's the South and I'm not complaining (much) because at least we are thankful for a 10 degree decrease in our heat in the day time and much more than that at night.
Hang in there....

Hi Julie,
Should I be checking my mailbox of the way back when thing we talked about a few weeks ago?
Don is much improved but still has a long way to go. I barely get on the computer more than once a day and generally late at night. I've lost the umph, so to speak.
I love the magazine covers. SEP was brilliant.
I love these magazine covers Julie! How I'd love to share a cup of tea with you and leaf through these mags in real life!. Your hallowe'en collection is wonderful- I do remember previous years when you have shown us more things.
Its good to see you blogging again

PS- I love the celtic pumpkin top right!
I really enjoyed these magazine covers, I love vintage Halloween stuff! Thanks so much for sharing these, just delightful!
These are great pictures! And thank you for hosting the competition, it was fun to do! Is your email scottishlassnd@yahoo.com? England is a long way to post something, I don't want to be a nuisance is it ok? :S
Hi, Eleanor,
Since you are a no-reply blogger, I will have to reply to you here. Yes, that is my e-mail address. Please e-mail me your mailing address asap. It is fine to send it to England. I have sent parcels to my friend who lived in Somerset (now Dorset) and to my second cousin in Scotland.
Hey, you got three awards! :) Check 'em out here: http://hedgewitchhollow.blogspot.com/2010/10/3-blog-awards-holy-cow.html
Cheers!
