"FIRE FANCIES"
**********
I'm doing something I've never done before. I'm hosting an art challenge! Actually, I'm co-hosting the challenge with Mary at "Back of the Moon" (www.backofthemoon-shopgirl.blogspot.com). (Check out her Halloween banner!)
Mary and I both fell in love with the painting (above) called "Fire Fancies" by Arthur Hacker. It's an evocative image that leads us to ask ourselves, "What is going on in this young lady's mind?"
We thought having this challenge would be a good way to celebrate fall. We're asking you to use the painting as a basis for a collage. Our challenge is for you to take the image and the word prompt "fire fancies" (i.e.: What does she see as she peers into the fire?) and create your own work of art, celebrating a realm where imagination takes full flight.
If you'd rather use some other art medium than collage, that's fine. We don't have a lot of rules.
Entries will be accepted through Oct. 10. Post a picture of your collage or other type of art work on your blog and then make a comment on Mary's or my blog with a link to your post. If you don't have a blog, just e-mail a picture to Mary or me.
We hope that you are inspired by this challenge and the prizes we're awarding. We're giving away a packet of "Fire Fancies" greeting cards, Susan Branch's "Autumn From the Heart of Home" book and "Borders and Frames," a CD ROM and book of clip art frames to use in your artwork.

Great challenge...I'll have to get busy!
Love this painting too. As a girl I remember seeing horses stampede through the fire. This will be fun!
I am in!
hugs to Mrs Julie, a very first time art challenge hostess ;-)
I think this sounds like fun too Julie. It's a beautiful painting.
This sounds like a fun challenge. Good luck with it. I hope Ninnie does it because I think she is good with fire imagination. I'll be looking forward to seeing all the great art this will bring. Take care. xoxoxo
It's going to be exciting to see what everyone produces. Looking forward to Oct. 10th.
This is a beautiful painting. Good luck with your challenge!

Oh, what fun, Julie! I can hardly wait to get started. I've never laid eyes on this painting before and it is stunning. Thanks for the invitation.
Hope all is well in your neck of the woods. Happy week!

Hi Julie,
Thanks so much for visiting my blog and for your your kind comments.
Feel free to use whichever photo you'd like.
That little witch in my banner is my grandmother as a little girl. :) I call her Louisa Worry Witch...she has such a frown. I know my grandmother laughs at me up in heaven at all the things I do to her photos!
Anyhow, fun challenge and I can't wait to see the others.
I am casting my vote for Carmen. Her Fire fancy is enchanting.
Carmen should win this, hands down! I vote for her!
I'm no artist Julie, but I will watch with interest to see what those with talent come up with.
Great idea..

I have a question... I can take the picture and use it and add to it and does what I add have to be something that I have drawn..... I can do something but I am not an artist per say that can draw but I can create things in my graphics program ! ahhahah Hope this question makes sense!
Hugs
